Singer Michelle Shocked will join Hillary Clinton at the University of Colorado, Boulder. About 10,000 students are expected at the rally which will focus on a variety of social issues, including the environment, education, civil rights, and abortion rights, says student leader Eric Kessler.
Rallies also are planned today at the University of Maryland, College Park, where Vice President Albert Gore speaks; University of New Mexico, with presidential candidate Bill Clinton; Boston University where Tipper Gore is to speak, and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Spearheading the voter drive is GreenVote, an independent political committee led by Owen Byrd, an attorney who was national student coordinator of Earth Day 1990. The group aims to register 90,000 new eco-voters on 180 campuses. We hope to make election day Earth Day,” Byrd says.
