Shocked, Rumors to Play KAVE Birthday Bash

Northwest Independent Music News
August 1992

In what should prove to be yet one more first for Eugene/Springfield Radio stations, 95.3 The KAVE is throwing a Birthday party and fund-raising event like no other. KAVE's "Birthday Bash," being thrown to celebrate the second year of doing business in serving as a fundraiser for the Lane County Chapter of "No on 9," Oregon's controversial "anti-homosexual" bill being presented to voters this November.

The line-up of musicians is as much a statement about the issue as a statement to the diversity of music played on The KAVE. Heading the bill is Mercury recording artist, Michelle Shocked. Bursting onto the scene with her unique blend of pop and folk, Shocked is currently playing dates in support of her new album, Arkansas Traveler.

According to KAVE co-owner, David Miller, "Michelle is really making a special trip to appear here. She is going to have to drive down from Vancouver B.C., play the show and then drive all night to make Seattle in time for a Noon-time Bumbershoot concert. It was the "No on 9" cause that made the difference, I think."

Seattle's Rumors of the Big Wave will be supporting Shocked on the bill, along with Art Grooveaux, Virginia Cohen and Rooster's Blues Jam Allstars. Rumors of the Big Wave is currently touring in support of their new compact disc, Burning Time.
