Story on Shocked tour based on wrong info, source says

Michigan
October 28, 1992

Several errors exist in Tuesday’s preview story of the Michelle Shocked/Taj Mahal/Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown Arkansas Traveler Revue concert at the Michigan Theater tonight, according to Bart Bull, husband of Shocked.

The article stated that The Band, one of the tour’s original supporting acts for Shocked, “abruptly walked off the tour.” According to Bull, Shocked asked the members of The Band to leave the tour, and he said the article leaves an incorrect impression of the circumstances of their departure.

Uncle Tupelo, another one of the tour’s supporting acts, was reported to have quit due to a problem with Shocked’s manager.

The source who provided the information, which Bull and the manager of Uncle Tupelo say is incorrect, was Jeff Pachman, manager of Rockville Records, Uncle Tupelo’s record label.

Pachman said late Tuesday night that he had discussed the tour with the News reporter without having talked to the members or the manager of Uncle Tupelo and said he could have unintentionally misled the reporter. Pachman further said: “I admit I didn’t have all the facts, and I want to apologize.”

Based on its own sources, the article described future tour dates as “uncertain.” Bull stated, however, that future tour dates will take place as scheduled, with the lineup of Shocked, Taj Mahal, and Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown.

The Arkansas Traveler Revue performs at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Michigan Theater. For details on tickets, phone 668-8397.
