THE BATTLE AGAINST HUNGER ISN’T one you ever win for good, which is why it’s encouraging so many musicians keep fighting – from Springsteen with his food bank plugs to the folksingers who kick off Pete Fornatale’s annual WNEW-FM hunger campaign with a benefit tonight at 8 at Speakeasy, 107 MacDougal St.

Tom Chapin, Dave Van Ronk, Tom Intondi, John Gorka, Joe Virga, Michelle Shocked, Terry Radigan, Jolynn Daniel and others will perform, with Rod MacDonald hosting. Proceeds will be donated to Fornatale during his 24-hour Hungerthon broadcast starting at 8 a.m. Saturday. Events like this don’t raise millions, but they keep people and an idea alive.
