Sunday, December 14, East Texas country-blues singer, Michelle Shocked, will perform at a benefit for the Coalition on West Valley Nuclear Wastes.
The 23-year-old vocalist returns to WNY with her September release, [The] Texas Campfire [Tapes] on the London label, Cooking Vinyl. The album has already reached Number 26 on England’s [independent] charts. Michelle will leave on a European tour immediately following performances here, in Buffalo and in Rochester.
A full day of country fun for the entire family is planned to begin at 2 p.m. when toboggans, sleds, and cross-country skis will take to the hillside trails behind the restaurant. At 4 p.m., Larry Levergood, owner/manager of Hunter’s Harbor, will serve up one of his Master Chef buffets (only $10) and Michelle will tune up her guitar, mandolin, and fiddle. Accompanying Ms. Shocked will be Phil Sottile, WBFO blues DJ, on his searing steel lap guitar, and Dave Sturtevant of Erie, Pennsylvania, will jump in on guitar and harmony vocals.
What’s more? Country Woodshop in Delevan will keep the party rolling with a Stupid Yoyo Tricks contest, featuring their own “Hummingbird” yoyos. The public is welcome to join the fun and, although not necessary, reservations can be made by calling 353-8744.
